REAL Cents REAL Change had a fantastic first day at Auburn University. The day began with introductions from Mr. Cole and Ms. Sam.

Overall, the focus of day one of REAL Cents REAL Change was finance. The first guest speaker of the day was Mr. Brian O'Neill. Mr. O'Neill talked specifcially about the importance of managing money in an appropriate way. The participants were given examples of several influential people in modern society, such as athletes, tv stars, etc. to illustrate the importantce of maintaining a good financial record.

The second activity of the day was the REAL Life Spending Profile. Each participant was given a profile with a specific career, family life, activity, etc. This activity taught participants about the differences between fixed and variable expenses as well as the importance of maintaining a balanced spending plan. Once the participants received this profile, they were tasked with balancing income and expenses so that no debt would occur.

After the lunch break, REAL Cents REAL Change participants had an excellent opportunity to travel to the local branch of the BB&T Bank. Mr. Eddie, BB&T Bank, spoke about the differences between checking and savings accounts as well as provided a brief overview on the uses of credit.

The first day ended with the daily reflection powerpoint. Each participant has created a personalized presentation that can be viewed on the "Genius Zone" ePortfolio tab on the menu above.
